Immobility (1999-2004)

Immobility (1999-2004)

 Immobility.  Mobility.  Organic form.  My thoughts seem to be formally based while dealing with material interaction is important to me. The works foundation is my desire to work with many materials and being able to work them well.

          The organic form that I use is my starting point.  Abstract references to orthopedic restraints and aids are the underlying thread that ties the work together. Once I have decided what sort restraint I want to create or explore, I usually manipulate the form to that device. There are times when the manipulation of form helps me visualize the device I need to create.

          These ties are usually soft supports.  I just felt this added a sense of quiet uneasiness because a sterile, ridged apparatus would be too harsh and aggressive. The soft connection, the paralysis, the immobility, the eerie dullness, and the uneasy simplicity make the work.
