Reconditioned (2004-2005)

Red gasoline container with a flexible spout on a plain background.
A broken Livestrong wristband with yellow and purple colors.
A small, metallic toy van with red windows and black wheels.
A shiny chrome hubcap with a unique circular design and a red accent.
Tall martial arts trophy with a kicking figure on top.

Reconditioned (2004-2005)

Selective debris left along Houston's streets and freeways are my subjects. These found objects are usually broken and left for trash. We normally pay no attention to these seemingly useless goods however I felt they had significance. The work evolved because I felt it was in everyone's best interest that broken objects be mended and not left for dead. My obsessiveness and attention to detail could bring these found objects back. It might not be a functional rebirth, but it is definitely a formal renewal.

This body of work is about mending these damaged and forgotten possessions. It is about analyzing, documenting, mapping, collecting, reconstructing, and reconditioning each individual object I find. Starting as I gather the item and finishing when I have repaired the object to a point of formal originality.
